25 Mergers and Acquisitions in and around the Restaurant Industry by 2021

The year 2021 was another busy year for restaurant industry mergers. There were still weeks left to go, from Capriotti's Sandwich Shop purchasing Wing Zone in January to Jack in the Box buying Del Taco in December.

NPC International's bankruptcy in summer 2020 was one year ago. This led to 2021 Q1 sales of Wendy's Pizza Hut units and Flynn Restaurant Group, Wendy's parent company, and Delight Restaurant Group.

Fat Brands made the biggest moves in 2018, after acquiring four restaurant chains in 2021.

Squarespace purchased reservations platform Tock from Restaurant Technology, in March. Sweetgreen bought Spyce in August.

Multiconcept operator JAB Holding Co. brought together its early daypart brands under one roof in August. This was the biggest transaction of the year. Panera Brands announced that it will be returning to the public market in November. Restaurant Brands International announced in November that they would be adding Firehouse Subs to their portfolio.
